Lucy L. Middleton is a freelance writer, journalist, editor, and speaker covering international news. She has written and commissioned original stories from more than 35 countries across six continents, and reported on the ground from the United States, South Africa, Romania, Bulgaria, and Lithuania, among others. 

 

Before freelancing, Lucy was the Thomson Reuters Foundation's LGBTQ+ correspondent, and was previously deputy editor of Openly, its award-winning global LGBTQ+ news platform. Her work on the TikTok channel Openly was recognised in the Social: News and Politics category at the 2025 Webby Awards. LGBTQ+ issues and human rights are still a big part of her journalistic coverage, as well as climate, defence and health.
